Academic Committee

At R. C. Patel Institute of Technology (RCPIT), the Academic Committee plays a central role in shaping, monitoring, and continuously enhancing the academic processes of the institute. In alignment with our autonomous status, this committee ensures that teaching, learning, curriculum development, and evaluation are of the highest standard and responsive to industry and societal needs.

Objectives

  • To plan and implement the academic vision and strategy of the institute
  • To oversee curriculum development, updates, and alignment with NEP 2020
  • To ensure compliance with AICTE, UGC, and affiliating university regulations
  • To monitor teaching-learning effectiveness, assessment methods, and student outcomes
  • To promote interdisciplinary learning, industry engagement, and academic innovation

Composition of the Academic Committee

Principal / Director (Chairperson) Provides leadership, final approval of academic policy
Dean Academics Coordinates academic planning, semester schedules, curriculum alignment
Dean Quality Assurance Ensures program outcome attainment, conducts academic audits
Dean Alumni Affairs Alumni engagement to support student development, institutional outreach, and academic-industry collaboration through mentorship
All HoDs Represent departments; propose subject revisions and elective offerings
Dean Research & Development Integrates research components into curriculum, oversees project quality
Dean International Relations & Higher Studies Aligns programs with global academic standards and mobility
Dean Industry–Institute Interaction Embeds industry-relevant content, internships, PoP lectures
Dean Student Affairs Oversees mentorship models, co-curricular planning, and student voice
Controller of Examinations (COE) Guides examination reforms, grading policy, and integrity mechanisms
Academic Coordinators (Faculty) Represent individual programs for operational implementation
External Experts (as needed) Industry and academic experts from reputed institutions (ad hoc)

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and revise program structures, syllabus, and assessment patterns
  • Review and approve electives, Honors/Minor programs, and value-added courses
  • Monitor academic calendars, teaching plans, and faculty workloads
  • Recommend innovations in pedagogy, lab development, and e-learning adoption
  • Evaluate Course Outcome (CO) and Program Outcome (PO) attainment reports
  • Facilitate faculty development, student feedback analysis, and continuous improvement

Frequency of Meetings

The Academic Committee convenes once per semester, or as required by institutional needs. Urgent academic reforms or policy changes may trigger special meetings.

Outputs & Approvals

Decisions taken by the Academic Committee are forwarded to:

  • Board of Studies (BoS) of each department for subject-specific inputs
  • Academic Council for ratification and final implementation
  • IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell) for documentation and quality tracking

The Academic Committee ensures that RCPIT maintains a dynamic, forward-thinking, and student-centered academic ecosystem that prepares graduates to thrive in an ever-evolving professional world.
