Honors Degree Program

At R. C. Patel Institute of Technology (RCPIT), the Honors (Major–Minor) Degree Program reflects our commitment to academic distinction and future-ready education. This program is designed for academically motivated and high-performing B.Tech students who seek to deepen their subject expertise while adding a cross-disciplinary specialization to their core engineering curriculum.

Offered from the second year onward (Semester III to VII), the Honors program allows students to earn additional credits (typically 18–20) within the standard 4-year B.Tech timeline. These tracks are meticulously aligned with:

  • The goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020
  • Emerging technological domains in high industry demand
  • Postgraduate study pathways and career specialization

Eligibility Criteria

Students must meet at least one of the following to enroll:

Student Type Academic Requirement
Regular SY B.Tech Student Minimum CGPA of 7.00 in First Year
Lateral Entry via Diploma Diploma Score ≥ 70% or CGPA ≥ 7.00

Note: Applicable only for students admitted to Semester III in 2025–26.

Program Duration

  • Semesters: III to VIII (6 Semesters)
  • Concurrent with Regular B.Tech Program
  • Total Credits: As per respective Honors Track (typically 18–20)

Evaluation Components

  • Coursework: Regular theory and lab-based assessments
  • Project/Research Component: Mini project or domain-specific investigation
  • Practical Assessments: As per curriculum (varies by department)
  • Final Exams: Comprehensive evaluations each semester

Note: No refund or installment facility. Fee not covered under any scholarship scheme.

Registration Procedure

  1. Collect the Honors Registration Form from the Library or Department.
  2. Attach Required Documents:
    • First-year grade card (CGPA ≥ 7.0) or Diploma mark sheet
    • Honors Fee Payment Receipt
    • Signed Undertaking (provided by department)
  3. Submit Form + Documents to Department Office
  4. Pay Fees in Cash to Accounts Office before the deadline

Award of Honors Degree

Final certification issued after Semester VIII, based on successful completion of:

  • All Honors courses
  • Projects and evaluations
  • Fee payment and attendance requirements

The Honors title will appear on the Final Grade Card as: "B.Tech with Honors in [Specialization]"

Important Notes

  • Honors Degree is optional but highly recommended for academically driven students.
  • Students dropping out mid-way or leaving the institute will not be eligible for the Honors certificate.
  • The program does not affect the main B.Tech degree timeline or graduation eligibility.
