Git and GitHub Session 2026

The Git & GitHub Session was successfully organized by GDGoC RCPIT under the Computer Engineering Department, with the objective of providing students with practical exposure to version control systems and collaborative development tools widely used in the software industry. The workshop was conducted in the CC Lab and was open to students from all engineering branches. It commenced on 13th February 2026 and continued for three days (13th–15th February 2026), with each session lasting approximately 1.5 hours per batch to ensure effective hands-on learning. The workshop was formally inaugurated on 13th February 2026 by the Director of RCPIT Dr. J. B. Patil Sir, who performed the ribbon-cutting ceremony and officially declared the Git & GitHub sessions open. The inauguration ceremony was graciously attended by the Deputy Director Dr. P. J. Deore Sir; the Head of the Computer Engineering Department Dr. R. B. Wagh Sir; and the GDGoC RCPIT Coordinator Dr. S. M. Pardeshi Sir, along with esteemed mentors and faculty members. Their encouraging words and presence inspired the participants and set a positive tone for the entire workshop. The primary aim of this session was to help students understand the critical role of version control in real-world software development. In academic projects, students often face challenges such as code mismanagement, overwriting of files, lack of collaboration structure, and data loss due to improper version handling. To address these issues, the workshop was carefully designed to bridge the gap between academic practices and industry standards by introducing students to Git and GitHub as professional tools for efficient project management, collaboration, and code tracking. Through interactive sessions and hands-on demonstrations, participants learned essential Git commands, repository management, branching strategies, pull requests, and collaborative workflows. The workshop not only enhanced their technical knowledge but also strengthened their understanding of teamwork and industry best practices followed in the software development lifecycle.
