Board of Studies (BoS)
The Board of Studies (BoS) is the statutory academic body of the First Year Engineering Department, responsible for designing, reviewing, and continuously improving the curriculum in accordance with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), Outcome-Based Education (OBE), the guidelines of AICTE and the affiliating university, and the evolving needs of engineering education. The Board ensures that the curriculum remains relevant, flexible, multidisciplinary, and aligned with the recommendations of the Academic Council, fostering academic excellence, innovation, critical thinking, professional ethics, and lifelong learning.
Functions of the Board of Studies
- Design, develop, review, and revise the curriculum and course syllabi for First Year Engineering programmes.
- Recommend the introduction and revision of foundation courses, multidisciplinary courses, and skill-based courses in accordance with NEP 2020.
- Review and approve Structure, Syllabus and Course Outcomes (COs), and their alignment with the curriculum and Outcome-Based Education framework.
- Ensure effective integration of fundamental engineering sciences, mathematics, basic sciences, programming, engineering graphics, communication skills, environmental studies, and emerging technologies into the curriculum.
- Promote interdisciplinary and experiential learning through laboratory work, mini-projects, problem-based learning, project-based learning, and activity-based teaching methodologies.
- Recommend innovative teaching-learning practices, including the effective use of ICT-enabled tools, blended learning, flipped classrooms, and digital learning resources.
- Suggest appropriate assessment, evaluation, and continuous internal assessment methods to enhance student learning and attainment of Course Outcomes.
- Encourage the development of professional skills, critical thinking, creativity, communication, teamwork, ethics, environmental consciousness, and lifelong learning among students.
- Promote research orientation, innovation, entrepreneurship, internships, community engagement, and participation in technical and co-curricular activities.
- Facilitate continuous curriculum improvement through stakeholder feedback, academic audits, industry interaction, benchmarking with reputed institutions, and quality assurance practices.
- Recommend academic regulations, curriculum revisions, and policy matters to the Academic Council for approval.
